BioThis is a character journal for Cid Highwind. Welcome.
Cid’s life started in a trailer park fifty three miles outside of town, with a neighbor birthing him right there on the shaggy green carpet, Cid’s family being ill equipped to afford pricy doctors. His Ma was a sweet enough woman, with a bulldog for a husband, and though Cid entered foster care at the tender age of ten, he still remembers the way she looked with her trademark orange apron, baking cookies. Without question, she was the first person he ever truly loved, and he regrets her loss bitterly.
As Cid grew, an ambition to escape the early horrors of his home life blossomed into a blazing desire to escape the planet altogether. Despite the efforts of a half dozen foster families to temper the young man’s seemingly quixotic dreams, Cid went to college on a full scholarship and graduated ready to enter the fledgling Shin-Ra Space Program. In this, at last, he excelled. Unfortunately, just as the maiden voyage was to take flight and make manifest all of Cid’s dreams, an unfortunate employee entered the blast-off radius. Forced to make the choice of realizing his goal or sparing a grunt’s life, Cid scrapped the launch. As a result, the program was as short lived as it was unsuccessful, and Cid was summarily shown the door.
Sometimes, on dark cold nights, Cid wonders whether he made the right decision.
Fallen as a would-be astronaut, Cid now makes a decent enough living as a mechanic. Word of mouth has ensured he has a steady stream of customers, and his doggedly honest personality has guaranteed repeat business. After a few years, Cid was finally able to scrap together the parts to build a decent telescope to sit on the rooftop of his ragged old apartment building. It is here he can be found on clear nights, gazing up at his lover, ever present, and ever beyond his reach.
